SHAH ALAM, Feb 26 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) seized five business premises and street stalls believed to be owned by foreign nationals around Ampang Hilir yesterday.
MPAJ said on Facebook that the enforcement action by the local authority’s Enforcement Department targeted various offences, including operating businesses without a licence.
“This operation ensures that business activities within MPAJ’s jurisdiction comply with the law and do not compromise public safety and well-being.
“MPAJ will continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement to maintain an orderly, licensed, and competitive business environment,” it added.
The council has also opened complaint channels via the SISPAA MPAJ portal and the toll-free line 1-800-22-8100.
For the record, local authorities do not permit foreign nationals to apply for, or own, business licences, including licences for street vendors, small traders, retail shops, or restaurants in Malaysia.
Enforcement is carried out under existing regulations, including the Local Authority By-Laws (UUK) on Street Vendors and Trade, Business, and Industry.
In Malaysia, foreign companies may only operate large-scale retail businesses through private limited companies, partnerships, or franchise arrangements.
