Police on the lookout for thief who stole from Tarawih congregation

SHAH ALAM, Feb 24 — The authorities are hunting a man suspected of involvement in a theft and attempted trespass at the Batang Kali Islamic Centre/Surau after his actions were captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) last night.

Harian Metro reported that Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt Ibrahim Husin said they received a report of the theft of duplicate keys and an attempted break-in at the premises.

“The incident is believed to have occurred at about 9.25pm on February 22. CCTV footage shows an unidentified suspect prising open and rummaging through the motorcycle basket of a congregant parked outside the Islamic Centre using a piece of wood.

“The suspect also attempted to trespass into the Islamic Centre but failed as congregants were performing Tarawih prayers,” he said.

Ibrahim added that police have opened investigation papers under Sections 379 and 447 of the Penal Code.

“The police are actively tracking down and seeking to arrest the suspect involved,” he said.

Members of the public with information regarding the incident are urged to contact the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters at 03-60651021 or the nearest police station.
