SHAH ALAM, Feb 22 — Education is a vital pillar in ensuring society is guided in life and prepared to face challenges, including those beyond rational understanding, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said that without education, people become diminished and more vulnerable to actions that cross moral boundaries, citing the recent killing of five members of a family in Kuantan, Pahang, as an example.

"Today, we face various challenges, sometimes even beyond logic and reason. At times, these incidents seem almost unbelievable, but this is the reality.

"A few days ago, we heard about the deaths of an entire family, beginning with a son killing his mother and other family members, before taking his own life. This is beyond our imagination.

"Incidents like this make us realise the importance of education. The various channels of information today doesn't guarantee we become wiser. That is why children must be educated, and university students trained and guided in terms of their humanity."

He said this during the Menteri Besar's breaking fast event with Selangor teachers and the education community at Dewan Raja Muda Musa, Section 7, yesterday, which was attended by some 1,000 educators.

Amirudin said the state administration remains committed to making and maintaining education as the primary key to success in Selangor.

"We don't have gold or other natural resources to extract, but we have human capital. Without education and knowledge, we face a huge challenge in maintaining excellence."

He said moving forward, the state would review every aspect of education, from book vouchers to university fee discounts.

Previously, when tabling the 2026 Selangor Budget on November 14, Amirudin announced the allocation of RM136.2 million for education and human capital development, the highest in the state's history.

This includes covering 50 per cent of tuition fees for 4,000 Selangor students enrolling at Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) and Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS) for the September intake this year.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the annual breaking fast event yesterday is a show of appreciation to educators who have contributed so much to the community.

“Educators and teachers are a group that must be celebrated. Although not all 68,000 teachers were invited, we believe that meeting with representatives from the State Education Department, District Education Offices, agencies, and units still demonstrates our unwavering commitment."

At the ceremony, Amirudin witnessed the exchange of a memorandum of understanding between Yayasan Selangor and several other entities to enhance the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) ecosystem.

This includes collaborations with TYMBA Education Group, DHS Hospitality Academy, ATC College, Taleem (M) Sdn Bhd, Pioneers Integrated Solutions (TPIS), and Al Motahida Education Group.
