New Shah Alam mayor pledges to boost infrastructure, service delivery

SHAH ALAM, Feb 20 — Newly appointed Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Zabidah Safar has pledged to enhance infrastructure and strengthen service delivery for the people of Shah Alam.

She said MBSA is a mature local authority, citing its track record of accomplishments and steady growth.

“My focus will be on issues commonly faced by other local authorities, such as waste management, flooding and road conditions, as these directly affect the satisfaction of Shah Alam residents.

“I need to first assess what should be prioritised. Routine matters will continue as usual,” she told reporters after her swearing-in ceremony at Wisma MBSA here today.

Zabidah, 58, succeeded Dato’ Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim, becoming the first woman to hold the post in the council.

Meanwhile, Fauzi has been promoted to the Department of the Director-General of Lands and Mines (JKPTG) under the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry.

Zabidah holds a Master of Public Service from Universiti Malaya and started her career in the civil service on January 25, 1995, as an assistant secretary at the Home Ministry (KDN).

She has since served in various departments, including the Hulu Langat District and Land Office, Selangor State Treasury, and Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI). Prior to her appointment, she was Penang state financial officer.
