'Make findings of Azam Baki probe public'

SHAH ALAM, Feb 20 — The special committee set up to investigate allegations involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Azam Baki has been urged to conduct its probe fairly and transparently, with the findings made public.

Political analyst Assoc Prof Mazlan Ali said the public has the right to know the outcome of the investigation so that the process can be evaluated openly, ensuring justice for all parties involved.

"I agree with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's stand that the probe must be conducted according to the law, including through an internal investigation by the Public Service Department (JPA), considering Azam is a public servant and not a politician.

"This case is not a criminal or corruption matter, but more about the ethics of the public service.

"Investigation can be conducted in detail, including reviewing financial transactions and stock trading records through Bursa Malaysia,” he said when contacted by Media Selangor.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia's (UTM) Social Sciences and Humanities Faculty director Assoc Prof Mazlan Ali.

Mazlan, who is a director at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia's (UTM) Social Sciences and Humanities Faculty, said the establishment of the special committee shows the government's determination to conduct a transparent probe.

He also reminded the public to refer to verified sources before forming opinions to avoid disseminating false information that could undermine justice.

Previously, Anwar said any complaint or action taken against any government agency or individual must be based on the law and undergo stringent investigation.

He said if there is any basis to the complaints, then the matter should be brought to court for trial.

Bloomberg previously reported that Azam held shares in a financial services company based on corporate filings.

However, Azam, at a recent press conference, said his RM800,000 shareholding in the company was made transparently and in accordance with proper procedures.
