PUTRAJAYA, Feb 5 — Local technology solutions provider Zchwantech Group today entered into a strategic partnership with Magna AI to support the development of a Sovereign AI Cloud and accelerate Malaysia’s secure and sovereign digital transformation agenda.
The collaboration will focus on the design and development of sovereign AI infrastructure, including data and model pipelines, artificial intelligence (AI) operations and high-performance computing environments to support enterprise- and national-level AI workloads.
Zchwantech Group chairman Datuk Seow Gim Shen said under the memorandum of understanding (MOU), both parties will work together to develop dedicated AI data centres designed to provide high-performance computing capacity in support of the country’s digital transformation plans.
“As digital transformation accelerates, traditional security approaches alone are no longer sufficient.
“By integrating cybersecurity with advanced AI, this collaboration equips organisations with proactive and adaptive capabilities to protect critical systems while continuing to drive innovation,” he said in his speech at the signing ceremony, which was witnessed by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil here today.
Seow said the partnership combines Zchwantech Group’s expertise in cybersecurity and digital integration with Magna AI’s end-to-end AI transformation capabilities, including model integrity and data governance, setting a new benchmark for secure digital adoption and effective risk mitigation.
He added that the strategic collaboration marks an important step towards building a trusted digital ecosystem that balances innovation with security, enabling organisations to transform responsibly and sustainably while translating advanced technologies into tangible outcomes for enterprises and public sector stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Fahmi described the partnership as timely in strengthening the development and adoption of sovereign AI in Malaysia, in line with national data security and digital sovereignty requirements.
He said the MOU opens significant opportunities for local companies, particularly in cybersecurity, to collaborate with international players possessing comprehensive expertise across AI infrastructure, applications and security.
Fahmi said Magna AI’s approach goes beyond focusing solely on chips or central processing units (CPU), instead encompassing the development of infrastructure and applications. He said this could help address the productivity paradox often highlighted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, namely, the challenge of large technology investments without commensurate gains in productivity.
He added that the collaboration could help local companies, state governments and public agencies develop more practical sovereign AI-based applications that deliver tangible improvements in productivity and operational efficiency.
