RS-2, to be tabled this year, to create RM500b in economic value

SHAH ALAM, Jan 26 — The Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), which will be tabled this year, will encompass various state development initiatives and is expected to create up to RM500 billion in economic value, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He expressed hope that the RS-2 tour kicks off soon so all quarters can work together to ensure the state’s five-year development plan runs smoothly and is fully understood and internalised.

“This year, the administration and our entire team will table the RS-2. This will be our programme, together, not Amirudin’s programme, not the state secretary’s programme, not the excos or the Selangor State Executive Council’s (programme).

“If councillors, village heads don’t know about the RS-2, I believe the programme would proceed but won’t be a uniting element or foster cooperation among the people,” he said in his New Year’s address to civil servants here today.

Last week, Amirudin said the RS-2 will continue with its public-private partnership (PPP) agenda to ensure the state’s smooth, high-impact, sustainable and inclusive development.

RS-2 is a continuation of the RS-1, which took effect from 2021 to 2025 and was the first plan of its kind among Malaysian states.

The Selangor government launched the five-year development plan to fulfil short-term needs and improve resilience for the future.

In another development, Amirudin said this year would see several important events, including Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj’s Silver Jubilee and a special edition of Rumpun Selangor, under which Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah would visit the state’s nine districts.

Amirudin also reminded all quarters to give their full commitment for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026, which will be held in August.

“(We are) not just (hosting) SUKMA, but also the Islamic Solidarity Games 2029. People come to us not just for sports, but also for tourism and to visit other places.

“We must make sure that in August, we have successfully addressed administration and management issues so SUKMA 2026 becomes a SUKMA to remember, and (positively) impacts the people’s togetherness and unity,” Amirudin said.
