Cops rescue two Indonesian maids from alleged forced labour in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM, Dec 20 — Police rescued two Indonesian domestic helpers believed to be victims of forced labour exploitation by a businesswoman and her daughter in a raid on a house in Kayangan Heights here two days ago.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Ramsay Embol said that, based on the victims’ statements, the two women, aged 48 and 33, had their mobile phones confiscated, were forced to work overtime, were frequently assaulted, and had not received their salaries for the past two months.

“One had been working for two years and the other for a month,” he said in a statement today.

Ramsay said in the raid at about 2.30pm, police also arrested the maids' employers, a businesswoman and her daughter in their 50s and 30s.

He said the two women have been remanded for three days from yesterday until December 21.

The case is being investigated under Section 13 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Atimpsom).
