Beijing court rules in MH370 compensation cases

BEIJING, Dec 8 — A Beijing court has ruled on compensation claims filed by families of several passengers who went missing on Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 in 2014.

Xinhua reported the Beijing High People’s Court as saying that the eight cases ruled on this time involve eight passengers.

On Friday (December 5), the Chaoyang District People's Court ordered the defendants to compensate the plaintiffs in line with the Montreal Convention and relevant Chinese laws.

The compensation covers damages, funeral expenses, emotional distress damages, other losses and related costs, totalling over 2.9 million yuan (RM1.68 million) per case.

Flight MH370 went missing on March 8, 2014. The court noted that since 2016, family members of 75 missing passengers have successively filed 78 lawsuits, seeking damages and calling for the establishment of a search and rescue fund, among other demands, against Malaysia Airlines and other defendants.
