PUTRAJAYA, Sept 19 — Students affected by floods will be granted permission not to wear uniforms to school, while those stranded and unable to attend school can participate in home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) sessions, said the Education Ministry (MOE).
It is preparing for the reopening of schools after the Second Term Break, 2025/2026 Session, including clean-up work and maintenance assistance at schools affected by the floods.
“The MOE is providing the best assistance to affected students, including in terms of providing learning materials as well as psychosocial and emotional support," said the ministry in a statement today.
It has requested that parents, student guardians, teachers, officers, and implementation group members affected inform the school or department of their respective situations.
“School authorities and district education offices are requested to obtain the latest information on the flood situation from the state disaster management committee secretariat, the state education department, and relevant agencies
“The MOE gives priority to the safety and well-being of all its citizens," the MOE said.
It noted that as of 8am today, 69 schools in Sabah and Sarawak were affected by floods, including 33 primary schools and five secondary schools in Sabah, and 28 primary schools and three secondary schools in Sarawak.
“A total of seven temporary evacuation centres are operating at MOE educational institution premises in Sabah," said the MOE.
