SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 — Petaling Jaya residents can expect better flood protection and new recreational facilities following two major projects by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), The Star reported.

In Sea Park, a RM5.3 million monsoon drain upgrade was completed after years of minor landslides damaged homes along Jalan 21/9.

Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei said the 16-month project has helped stabilised slopes, improved drainage and added a 525m pedestrian walkway with security-controlled access.

“Slope vulnerabilities had caused minor landslides along the monsoon drain, bringing down walls of several houses in Jalan 21/9. The last incident was in March 2022.

“While MBPJ rectified these incidents as they occurred, our office felt it was necessary to pursue a long-term solution for safety,” she was quoted as saying by the English daily.

Meanwhile, in SS7 Kelana Jaya, MBPJ will transform an underused futsal court into an RM800,000 pickleball and padel facility under a public-private partnership.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the agreement will see a private firm construct and run the facility for 21 years.

“We have inked an agreement where the firm builds and manages the facility, while MBPJ will rent out the courts.”

MBPJ Zone 22 councillor Mohamed Hamka Mohamed Jumah said the construction is expected to take four months, but expects work to be fast-tracked.
