CAAM advises travellers to check flights following Mount Lewotobi eruption

PUTRAJAYA, July 8 — The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has advised all air travellers scheduled to fly today to remain alert and check with airlines for any potential flight disruptions following the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in Indonesia.

It urged passengers to stay informed of the latest developments and monitor official airline announcements.

“All travellers are advised to contact their respective airlines for any updates on flight schedules potentially affected,” CAAM said in a brief advisory issued today.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, located in Indonesia’s East Flores Regency, erupted at 11.05am local time yesterday, sending a towering ash column, grey to black and of heavy intensity, 18 kilometres above the volcano’s 1,584-metre summit.

Indonesia’s Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation has raised the alert level to Level Four, the highest on the scale, and urged locals and tourists to avoid all activities within a six-kilometre radius of the crater and up to seven kilometres in the southwest to northeast sector.

Flights to and from the neighbouring islands of Bali and Labuan Bajo have reportedly been cancelled following the eruption.
