State assembly approves fund to boost action against illegal factories

SHAH ALAM, July 8 — The Selangor State Legislative Assembly today approved the establishment of the Illegal Factories Trust Fund (KWA-KTK) to strengthen enforcement under the state’s illegal factories whitelisting programme.

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said the fund will ensure enforcement is not perceived as weak or taken lightly by operators who build factories in prohibited areas.

He said the state government, through the Selangor Land and Mines Office, has compiled centralised data to enable more targeted and evidence-based enforcement and remediation efforts.

“As of June 30, 4,305 complaints related to illegal factories have been recorded statewide,” he said during his wind-up speech on the resolution to establish the trust fund under Section 10 of the Financial Procedure Act 1957.

Ng had earlier explained the KWA-KTK will cover expenses related to enforcement operations involving state-owned and private land occupied by illegal factories.

“It will also fund engagement programmes and publicity efforts directly linked to the objectives of the trust fund, as well as other activities involving unauthorised factories in Selangor,” he said.
