SHAH ALAM, May 15 — The Selangor government is aiming to lower its unemployment rate to 2 per cent by the end of the year, from 2.2 per cent in the first quarter (Q1) of this year.
State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication V. Papparaidu said that to achieve this goal, various initiatives are being implemented to provide jobs and infrastructure, especially in sourcing skilled workers.
“The state government is actively conducting career carnival roadshows, even at the district level, to help jobseekers.
“We are also arranging meetings with large companies, including multinationals, to create high-impact jobs,” he told reporters after Selangor’s Labour Day event at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building here today.
Papparaidu added that more than 3,000 jobseekers were helped last year through job carnivals in each district.
On May 9, chief statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the labour market continued to record stable progress in Q1 2025, with key indicators showing an increase in the number of employed persons and the labour force participation rate, while unemployment shrank.
Uzir said that at the state level, Putrajaya had the lowest unemployment rate at 1.8 per cent, followed by Melaka and Penang (1.9 per cent each), and Selangor (2.2 per cent).
