SHAH ALAM, April 9 — The Seri Serdang constituency has spent nearly RM30,000 to provide aid to the victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion in Subang Jaya.

Assemblyman Abbas Azmi said immediate help in the form of clothes, medicines and cash were handed out on the first day of the incident, on April 1.

“On the day it happened, when help wasn’t immediately available to the residents, we had already supplied them with clothes, medicines and drinking water,” he told Media Selangor.

“Thank God, now, many NGOs and volunteers have stepped in to provide such necessities.”

Abbas said that Kampung Tengah and Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru in Seri Serdang are among the hardest hit areas, with 130 people affected.

“Our service centre will make sure that no one is left out in receiving aid,” he said.

He added that the Aidilfitri celebration for the constituency will not be held, in solidarity with the victims and their plight.

“At this time, when the people are suffering and in sadness, it is only right that we focus on how we can help them to recover.”

In the incident, an explosion from a leaked gas pipeline caused a fiery inferno that melted vehicles and buildings within a 500 meter radius and a crater measuring 70 x 80 feet to appear at the site.
