Saudi data, AI authority digitises 3 bln transactions for green initiative

RIYADH, March 28 — The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has successfully digitised more than three billion transactions, significantly reducing paper usage and carbon emissions to support the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) and promote environmental sustainability.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that SDAIA continues to demonstrate the vital role of technology in reducing environmental impact, conserving resources, and fostering community participation in protecting the environment through various digital platforms and projects.

The Unified National Access Portal (Nafath) alone has digitised over 3.3 billion transactions, eliminating approximately 300,000 daily car trips to service centres, reducing fuel consumption and lowering carbon emissions.

Additionally, the Deem Government Cloud has consolidated 263 government data centres, saving more than 591 gigawatt-hours of energy.

The Tawakkalna national application, serving more than 33 million users, facilitates up to 100 million digital transactions daily, helping to minimise paper-based processes and reduce the need for physical movement, thereby supporting the sustainability of the Kingdom’s digital infrastructure.

Complementing these efforts, the Ehsan National Platform for Charitable Work has funded 48 environmental projects, planting over 261,000 trees in partnership with 41 charitable organisations, with contributions exceeding SAR5.8 million (US$1.57 million).

This reflects how technology and charitable initiatives can work hand-in-hand to advance environmental objectives.

SDAIA continues to lead national efforts in data and artificial intelligence, enhancing digital infrastructure, empowering entities with smart solutions, and advancing the digital economy in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Kingdom’s sustainable development goals.
