Number of flood evacuees in Sabah rises

KOTA KINABALU, March 10 — The number of flood evacuees in Sabah rose this morning to 4,122 from 1,357 families from 3,579 from 1,203 families yesterday.

The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat reported that 743 people from 276 families were being housed at eight relief centres in Tenom as at 8am.

Beaufort has 1,339 evacuees from 432 families at four relief centres, while Membakut has 872 evacuees from 293 families at two centres.

Two relief centres in Sook housed 1,031 people from 241 families, while in Keningau, two centres housed 137 people from 51 families.

“A total of 37 villages have been affected, with 10 each in Beaufort, Membakut, and Tenom, as well as five in Sook and two in Keningau. The evacuation trend across all relief centres remains unchanged,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in Sarawak, flood evacuees increased slightly to 352 this morning, compared to 347 last night.

State JPBN reported that 178 people were accommodated at a relief centre at Dewan Masyarakat Medamit in Limbang.

“The number of evacuees in Lawas remains at 174, with 100 housed at Dewan Masyarakat Trusan, 35 at SJKC Chung Hwa, and 39 at SK Lintang,” it said.
