More flood victims in Sabah, but fewer in Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — The number of flood evacuees in Sabah increased, while Sarawak continued to report a decline tonight.

Sabah

The state Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat said the number of evacuees rose to 479 from 132 families as at 8pm, up from 322 from 82 families at 4pm.

A total of 253 people (65 families) are accommodated at two relief centres (PPS) in Kinabatangan, 149 people (48 families) in one centre in Beaufort, and 77 people (19 families) in a PPS in Keningau.

Sarawak

The number of evacuees continued to decrease to 4,341 people as at 8pm, down from 4,520 people earlier in the evening, with two more PPS closed, leaving 24 still operating.

Miri saw fewer evacuees, with 917 compared with 1,129 previously, while Samarahan recorded a drop to 51 people, down from 106 earlier this evening.

The three divisions that saw an increase in the number of victims were Bintulu, with 1,612 people, up from 1,593 this evening; Sibu, with 1,173 people, compared with 1,157; and Mukah, with 575 people, up from 522 previously.

The number of evacuees in Sarikei was unchanged at 13 people, while the two closed PPS were in Miri and Samarahan.
