SHAH ALAM, Nov 27 — The state government is identifying more land that can be gazetted as permanent forest reserves.
State executive councillor for environment and public health Jamaliah Jamaluddin said Selangor is committed to maintaining at least 30 per cent of the state’s land (government, private and reserve plots) as permanent forest reserves.
This is also part of strategies under the First Selangor Plan on sustaining the state’s forests, she added.
“Currently, Selangor has 250,987.12ha of permanent forest reserves, accounting for 31.7 per cent of the state’s total land,” she said at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.
Anfaal was responding to Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham’s question about the state government’s efforts in maintaining the percentage of permanent forest reserves.
Jamaliah said among efforts to help the state maintain its forest coverage include the enforcement of the Public Inquiry (Selangor) Rules 2014 for areas set to be de-gazetted.
Selangor is also conducting studies to identify government land for potential gazettement as permanent forest reserves.
