SHAH ALAM, Nov 19 — Funds for senior citizens, including for the construction of two more Senior Citizen Activity Centres (PAWEs) next year, will support younger generations’ health as the country becomes an ageing society.
Lembah Jaya assemblyman Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman Alhadad, popularly known as Altimet, said youth will be burdened with enormous responsibilities including financial pressures and managing their families.
“The young generation will have to bear two big responsibilities: supporting their ageing parents and raising their children.
“They are facing enormous financial and emotional pressure. With rising living costs, they face the dilemma of ensuring their parents’ well-being, children’s education, and caring for their own needs.
“With funding to build two more PAWEs and upgrade the existing ones, this will support the young generation and mark our concern for senior citizens,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Under the 2025 Selangor State Budget will open PAWEs in Kuala Langat and Hulu Selangor, in addition to earmarking RM400,000 to upgrade facilities and asset procurement at the Ampang, Paya Jaras, Setia Alam and Seri Kembangan PAWEs.
The administration also set aside RM400,000 to implement the programme and initiatives related to senior citizen health such as health screenings and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
