CAIRO, Nov 6 — Selangor has become the first state in Malaysia to submit a report on sustainable development goals (SDGs) to the United Nations, marking a milestone in the state’s commitment to sustainability.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari revealed the Voluntary Sub-National Review (VSR), prepared by PLANMalaysia Selangor in 2022, was submitted to the UN last year.

Six local authorities from Selangor also contributed their own Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs).

The participating local councils were the Shah Alam City Council, Subang Jaya City Council, Klang Royal City Council, Sepang Municipal Council, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, and Hulu Selangor Municipal Council.

“I congratulate all state government departments and subsidiaries for their dedicated efforts to integrate sustainable development across all areas,” Amirudin said at the Selangor Pavilion in conjunction with the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF), held at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre here yesterday.

During the event, Amirudin launched the VSR and VLRs and toured the Selangor Pavilion, which featured booths from the state’s 12 local councils and various government agencies.

The pavilion will also serve as a platform for discussions on localising SDGs.

Amirudin said the VSR and VLRs were developed to evaluate progress towards sustainable development in alignment with UN objectives.

“This is one of the resolutions derived from the WUF that we attended in 2019, and these reports outline our strategies for optimising resources towards energy.

“I also commend PLANMalaysia Selangor for successfully preparing the VSR report and submitting it to the UN last year.”

The event was also attended by Selangor state secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim, state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, and state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
