JAKARTA, Aug 14 — The authorities of Myanmar have called the rumours about a coup in the country fake and reaffirmed that the government continues to carry out its responsibilities, reported Sputnik.
Earlier this week, reports about a governmental coup were spread on social media and several media resources.
"Fake accounts are spreading false rumours to undermine peace and stability in the country. This is just propaganda with the help of the media that undermines order… I want to inform you that the head of state and officials are jointly fulfilling their national duties," the State Administration Council of Myanmar said in a statement today.
In February 2021, the military grabbed power in Myanmar using a constitutional mechanism of transferring powers in an emergency situation.
It arrested government officials, accusing them of rigging the general election, and later appointed a new administration. Since the takeover, the country has been facing economic sanctions.
