SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 — The State Government launched the Bangkit! Fighting Violence Against Women And Children initiative to fuel the 16-day Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the programme, which started on November 20 and is scheduled to run until December 10, features a variety of interesting content including a 'Sampai Syurga' theater performance, a visit to a shelter and a family story forum.
"This campaign is a community advocacy step to be more aware of forms of mental and physical violence, especially against women and children.
"This prevention narrative needs to be built at every level with the cooperation and collective commitment of all parties, from the grassroots to the policy-making stage.
"With the implementation of this campaign, it is hoped that the community in Selangor can unite against violence against women and children," said Anfaal Saari.at a press conference in conjunction with launch the programme at the Annex Building here.
Earlier, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari together with other representatives including members pf the opposition held placards with the slogans "Jinggakan Selangor" and "Bangkit! Fighting Violence Against Women And Children" in support of the campaign.
The International Day to End Violence Against Women is celebrated both locally and globally on November 25 every year.
