PETALING JAYA, Oct 15 — The Child Development Policy and the Action Plan 2022-2025 introduced by the Selangor administration has positioned the state as a role model in empowering children's rights.

State executive councillor for innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the domains and steps outlined in the policy are practical and aligned with the current situation.

“We outlined clear and systematic guidelines for children. If we can address the challenges related to children’s issues, the positive outcomes of the policy can be seen in the next five to ten years.

“All parties are urged to cooperate to ensure that the goals can be achieved, bringing about positive changes to the targeted community,” he said at the Children-Friendly City Initiative Awards Ceremony at the Royale Chulan Damansara Hotel, here, on Friday.

On March 17, the Selangor State Legislative Assembly approved the Selangor Child Development Policy and the Action Plan 2022-2025, focusing on 10 main domains.

The domains are parental and pre-natal preparation, social development, communication, early education and childcare, family prosperity, education (primary and secondary), the role of technology in child development, infrastructure and safety, socioeconomy and stakeholder involvement.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said that as a developed state, empowering children’s rights is a top priority in shaping state policies.

Citing Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) as an example, he said that the agency, established in 2009, provides various initiatives for the welfare management of the children in Selangor from infancy to youth.

“This includes Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor, Youth marriage initiative, Skim Bantuan Asuh Anakku Pintar, Selangor Special Needs Children initiative, Selangor Young Generation Incentive, and Selangor Kindergarten Assistance Scheme,” he said.
