SHAH ALAM, June 8 — Of the total 22,767 people that participated in the Selangor Saring programme last year, 32 per cent of the figure had undiagnosed comorbidities.
In a Facebook post today, state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said that the undiagnosed diseases detected from the free health screening initiative include high blood pressure and obesity.
“Some 32 per cent of the Selangor Saring (people) screened have undiagnosed high blood pressure and obesity.
“Continuous high blood pressure can lead to complications such as heart attacks, strokes, heart failure and kidney damage,” the post read.
According to an infographic shared on the post, Dr Siti Mariah said high blood pressure readings are at 180/110mmHg, while stable pressure levels are at 130/80mmHg.
On May 31, Dr Siti Mariah revealed that the Selangor Saring programme recorded the highest attendance rate with 22,767 individuals in 2022.
The programme is one of six initiatives introduced by the Selangor administration for the state's residents, which includes free screenings and financial assistance.
The state government has allocated RM3.4 million for the initiative, targeting individuals with a family medical history, obesity, and leading unhealthy lifestyles.
