Public advised to be wary of individuals impersonating as MCMC officer

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — The public is advised to be wary of calls from unknown individuals impersonating as Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) officers claiming that the person they contacted had committed an offence.

MCMC in a statement today said the reminder came after a complainant received a call from an individual named Mohd Azim Abdul Aziz who informed that the complainant's phone line had sent gambling and pornographic links to all telephones in Negeri Sembilan.

"The complainant was then required to lodge a complaint within 30 minutes, failing which, the complainant's telephone line will be blocked and blacklisted by the service provider.

"This is to inform that the individual in question, Mohd Azim Abdul Aziz, is not an MCMC staff member and has never served the Commission," read the statement.

According to MCMC, any announcement or notification on a matter related to the Commission is usually made through official channels such as its website or social media platform and not through the use of individual names, using dubious language and private mobile phone numbers.

As such, the public is urged not to be easily deceived when receiving calls from unknown parties and to immediately report the matter to the authorities for further action.
