SHAH ALAM, Oct 29 — A total of 10,000 Kita Selangor 2.0 tourism vouchers — worth RM100 each — have been fully redeemed through the Shopee app, said Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Azrul Shah Mohamad.
He said he is satisfied with the overwhelming responses when the vouchers were made available to the public last Friday, even though the redemption period is open until December 31.
“All of the vouchers have been fully redeemed, and I am confident it will be utilised as we can see the trend of people going out for holidays with their families after interstate travel was permitted again,” Azrul told SelangorKini.
He reminded the public to continue adhering to standard operating procedures during leisure time with the family.
Some 170 travel packages were offered through 35 agencies for the vouchers. The vouchers allowed limited purchase under one transaction, and cannot be replaced with other products.
The RM2.55 million initiative is part of the Kita Selangor 2.0 Packages offer launched by exco for tourism Hee Loy Sian. It was one of the efforts carried out by the state government to boost Selangor’s tourism activities due to the movement control order’s negative impact on the industry.
On December 18 last year, the state government launched a Tourism Vouchers Subsidy Redemption programme worth RM200 each.
The distribution involved 10,000 vouchers which could be used to stay at hotels, theme parks, and licenced homestays.
