SHAH ALAM, Feb 25 — The Selangor government will undertake three integrated measures to address electricity disruptions at Flat Taman Permata in Dengkil, Sepang, which were due to power theft, said state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.
He said temporary fixes to the system by Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd (PNSB) under Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) watch were completed yesterday evening.
“Checks revealed that the disruptions were caused by illegal electricity connections at several units, whose supply has been officially cut.
“This ‘DIY connection’ compromises the supply system’s stability and presents serious safety risks, including fires and electric shocks,” he said in a statement today.
Borhan added that the existing building is no longer habitable due to safety and technical risks.
Of the three measures, one is that the state government will immediately foreclose units involved in the power theft, as soon as TNB submits its official list.
The second is to coordinate the relocation of residents to new units at the Ampar Tenang People’s Housing Project (PPR), based on approvals decided upon by the Selangor administration and Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT).
The final step is for the state administration to closely monitor the area to prevent further trespassing and power theft.
“To ensure more effective implementation, an integrated task force involving (various) departments and agencies will be set up, with the parliamentary office leading field coordination to ensure enforcement and relocation are done systematically and strictly,” Borhan said.
He added that state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman will contribute by strengthening communication with the people, especially with former estate workers who were moved in 1999 from Ladang Perang Besar, Medingly, Galloway and Sedgely to make way for the development of Putrajaya.
Borhan said the state government will monitor the issue to ensure a solution is reached in a comprehensive, orderly and safe manner.
Yesterday, KPKT ordered PNSB to expedite fixes to the electricity disruption issues that have been plaguing more than 200 Flat Taman Permata residents over the past five days.
Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said that although the issue involves the safety of the building’s main wiring, the week-long repair period must be adhered to for residents’ safety.
