SHAH ALAM, Jan 21 — Free education for disabled persons who pursue further studies is expected to enhance their employability and quality of life in the long term, said the Selangor Council for Disabled Persons (MTOS).

Its chairman Danial Al-Rashid Haron said the initiative is a progressive, high-impact step toward strengthening the principles of social justice and ensuring that disabled persons have greater inclusive access to higher education.

“Education is the primary foundation for the empowerment of disabled persons and must be implemented holistically by providing additional support, including physical accessibility facilities, disability-friendly learning materials, academic support, and student welfare.

“This marks a point of reform in the country’s inclusive education ecosystem. MTOS stands ready to be a strategic partner in advocating for the rights and potential of disabled persons,” he said in a statement today.

Danial added that the state government remains committed to this issue and continues to coordinate various policies, programmes, and strategic collaborations with educational institutions, government agencies, and stakeholders, in line with the Selangor OKU Policy.

“An integrated approach with the Federal government is crucial to ensure that the benefits of this policy truly reach the target groups,” he said.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that approximately 3,000 disabled students at public higher learning institutions, polytechnics, and community colleges will enjoy free education.

During the launch of the National Education Plan 2026-2035, he said that the number of free education places for underprivileged students at public higher education institutions will be increased to 10,000 this year.
