KUALA LANGAT, Jan 13 — A total of 111 schools in Selangor received projects to address high-density issues, with a RM78 million allocation last year.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said that for this year, 48 more schools have been identified to receive similar facilities under the projects.
Conducted by the Education Ministry (MOE), they focus on constructing additional classrooms, temporary or permanent, to reduce student overcrowding.
“This is an example of good implementation by the ministry. The issue of high-density schools has always existed in the state due to population growth, but this time it has been addressed promptly and in a structured manner,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking to the media after officiating the handover ceremony for repair works at storm-affected schools in Sijangkang Jaya yesterday.
He added that among the districts receiving the highest number of projects are Hulu Langat and Klang, in line with their high population density.
“This issue has existed for a long time, and I believe the MOE will continue its efforts to address the problem of overcrowded classes in schools.
“I would like to thank Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek for her strong commitment to addressing this matter,” Amirudin said.
Previously, Fadhlina said that the construction of schools using the Industrialised Building System (IBS) concept, which began in May last year, is a catalyst for change in efforts to address overcrowding in schools and classrooms nationwide.
She added that the initiative, implemented by the MOE with the Public Works Department (JKR), has seen most projects fully completed within just a few months.
