SHAH ALAM, Dec 29 — A wide range of heritage-based activities organised by the Selangor Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (Padat) has successfully attracted visitors from across the country to the Sultan Alam Shah Museum, particularly during the school holidays.
Padat's Museum and Heritage Division assistant curator Azrizal Ahmad said the planned activities involve visitors of various age groups, including children and adults, to ensure a more interactive and meaningful visit.
“Key attractions include the Mini Explorace @ MSAS, which allows participants to gain deeper insight into Selangor’s history, as well as demonstrations of telepuk and kelingkan (textile) arts that showcase their production processes.

“The programmes organised are not limited to Selangor residents but are open to everyone. Throughout the programme period, we also received visitors from Kedah, Johor, and Perak,” he told Media Selangor.
Azrizal added that museums now face competition from theme parks as tourist destinations. However, content shared by visitors on platforms such as TikTok has dramatically helped to attract public interest in visiting the museum.
Meanwhile, visitor Sabariah Mohamad, 53, who came with her children from Mersing, Johor, said museum visits are the best medium to nurture children’s interest in the history of other states in Malaysia.

After visiting a museum in Pahang, she plans to take her children to museums in other states to continue their exposure to the nation’s history.
“Parents need to support their children in learning history because museum experiences are more effective than theoretical learning through books.
“In addition, today’s generation needs to understand history and appreciate past sacrifices to build identity and a spirit of defending the nation,” Sabariah said.
