PUTRAJAYA, Nov 13 — The Shanghai Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas@Shanghai) has recorded RM3.2 billion in total sales, surpassing its target of RM3 billion, marking a major milestone in Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its global halal leadership.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) said the exhibition, held from November 5 to Monday, saw 1,000 business meetings and the signing of 16 memoranda of understanding (MOUs) worth RM922.5 million.
“This remarkable figure cements Malaysia’s position as a global leader and reference hub for the halal economy.
“The phenomenal RM3.2 billion sales achieved at Mihas@Shanghai is a powerful testament to the quality and global trust in Malaysia’s halal ecosystem, and marks a strategic leap in globalising Malaysia’s halal economy,” it said in a statement today.
According to Matrade, Mihas@Shanghai not only strengthened Malaysia’s leadership in the halal sector, but also enhanced economic ties with China, Malaysia’s top trading partner.
It also served as a key milestone in the halal export mission, propelling micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) onto the international stage.
Beyond sales figures, Matrade said Mihas is important for connecting exporters and international buyers while demonstrating Malaysia’s commitment to expanding the halal ecosystem globally, in line with the Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 (HIMP) and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP).
A key highlight of the exhibition, which was held alongside the China International Import Expo (CIIE), was the International Sourcing Programme (INSP).
The programme facilitated targeted business matchings with over 100 international buyers, including 20 premium buyers from China, Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, India, Mauritius, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
“The initiative enhanced opportunities for Malaysian exporters to connect directly with strategic partners and importers in the East Asian region,” said Matrade.
CIIE, a Chinese government initiative aligned with the Belt and Road Initiative, provides a platform for foreign exporters to connect with Chinese buyers across various provinces, offering Malaysian exporters greater access and visibility in the vast market.
The existing collaboration between Matrade and CIIE Bureau is reinforced by the signing of an MOU earlier this year, which enhances market visibility and trade facilitation for Malaysian exporters in China.
According to the statement, Mihas@Shanghai achieved significant progress in advancing regional economic integration, with the recently concluded Asean Summit and Asean Economic Ministers’ Meeting.
Among the key outcomes was the upgrading of the Asean Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) and the Asean-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) 3.0, which are set to enhance market access and strengthen collaboration in emerging sectors such as green economy, digital economy, and supply chain connectivity.
These reaffirmed Malaysia and Asean’s commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and forward-looking economic growth, including in the halal sector.
Mihas@Shanghai 2025 marks the second international edition of the showcase organised by Matrade, following the success of Mihas@Dubai last year, which generated RM2.2 billion in trade.
A total of 250 Malaysian companies across food and beverage, agricultural products, fast-moving consumer goods, medical equipment and healthcare, and financial services sectors took part in the event.
