SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 — Bandar Baru Klang state assemblyman Dr Quah Perng Fei has proposed that the state government provide free Influenza A vaccinations for high-risk groups, including senior citizens aged 60 and above, as well as school students.
For non-high-risk groups, he suggested implementing a 50 per cent subsidy scheme for the vaccine.
“This subsidy scheme, in which both the government and the people each bear half the cost, would help reduce the financial burden on households,” he told Media Selangor.
Dr Quah also emphasised the need to improve the Iltizam Selangor Sihat scheme, which currently allocates RM500 per year for families with a household income below RM3,000 and RM250 per year for individuals earning below RM2,000.

“I propose that the annual health assistance for the family category be increased to RM1,000, as the current rate of RM500 is no longer sufficient to cover the cost of treatment and medication,” he said.
Meanwhile, Balakong state assemblyman Ong Chun Wei urged the state government to increase development allocations rather than administrative spending to ensure more funds are channelled directly into healthcare projects and community development.
He opined that the demand for healthcare services continues to rise in tandem with Selangor's growing population.
“Therefore, the state government must strengthen investment in this sector to support low-income patients and ensure more equitable access to treatment,” Ong said.
Apart from healthcare issues, he cited the need to improve road maintenance in low-cost apartment areas that are often neglected due to limited management funds.

“Many low-cost housing areas face potholes and damaged roads due to financial constraints. I will propose in the upcoming State Legislative Assembly sitting that major road maintenance projects also be extended to low-cost apartment areas so that all residents can enjoy safe and comfortable facilities,” he said.
The 2026 Selangor Budget is scheduled to be tabled on Friday (November 14), focusing on fiscal resilience, human capital development, and strengthening the state's strategic position as a key driver of the national economy.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari previously said the budget serves as a “transition budget” that not only marks the conclusion of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) but also lays the groundwork for the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), which will be presented next year.
