SHAH ALAM, Oct 12 — A total of 120 students from various schools across Selangor participated in the Digital Technology (AI) Outreach and Awareness Programme organised by the state executive councillor for innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah.
Fahmi said this is in line with Selangor's aim of becoming a smart state by 2030, adding that the administration is committed to nurturing a generation that is AI-literate.
“With more exposure programmes on AI like this, it is not impossible for us to create innovators of new products for the nation.
“Our system has the capacity to develop talent, and the state government is focused on building a strong foundation and educating students from an early stage,” he said in his speech during the programme here yesterday.
Fahmi also highlighted the advantages of today’s technological era and Malaysia’s potential to continue progressing.
“When I look at the environment here, I don’t see much difference compared to what I saw in Switzerland. I am confident in the potential of our young generation.
"With all the opportunities that digital technology provides, there is no reason why we cannot create our own success stories,” he said.
However, Fahmi cautioned against the potential risks of AI misuse, especially in education, and urged lecturers to take appropriate measures.
“Lecturers must ensure that plagiarism does not occur and they should be proficient in using AI tracking tools to verify that every academic project submitted by students is their own original work, not the result of misusing digital technology,” he said.
Programmes like this, he added, reflect the state government’s commitment to developing a tech-savvy and competitive generation.
Early exposure to AI will enable students to build a strong foundation in the digital field, paving the way for a brighter future for both the state and the nation, he added.
