SHAH ALAM, Sept 9 — The state government has rejected viral claims alleging that more than 200 Sekolah Agama Rakyat in the state will be closed, affecting around 40,000 pupils.
State executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the allegation is untrue, adding that the video used was an old clip from 2023.
“The video is a 2023 recording that has been deliberately reshared. For now, there are no plans or actions to close Islamic religious schools in Selangor.
“The figure of 40,000 pupils mentioned is also inaccurate,” he said in an interview with Selangor FM yesterday.
Fahmi added that the state government has lodged an official complaint with the Communications Ministry to investigate the TikTok account holder who spread the recording.
His office is also reviewing new guidelines to strengthen safety and welfare measures for teachers and pupils in religious schools throughout Selangor.
