KLANG, Aug 25 — Thirty participants. Five winners. One mission: to revitalise Taman Pengkalan Batu, Klang. That was the resounding impact of GM Klang’s ‘Fun & Freshen Up’ CSR programme, held with full energy and enthusiasm on Saturday inconjunction with Earth Warriors Day 2025.
Organised under the ‘Wake Up Make Up’ initiative by the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK), the event was made possible through collaboration with Earth Warriors Association and the Malaysian Wholesalers Association (PPM).
This initiative highlighted the strength of a three-way partnership between the corporate sector, NGOs and the community, uniting their efforts toward a shared goal of creating a cleaner, greener and more vibrant urban public space in Klang.
Kicking off as early as 7.30 am, the programme featured two main components. Under MBDK’s ‘Wake Up Make Up’ initiative, participating agencies carried out mural painting and tree-planting activities, giving the recreational space at Taman Pengkalan Batu a colourful and refreshing facelift.
At the same time, GM Klang alongside Earth Warriors and PPM spearheaded the clean-up efforts around the mural area, forming the core of the ‘Fun & Freshen Up’ initiative.
With brooms, gloves and community spirit in hand, participants came together to actively reclaim and beautify this public space in the heart of Klang.
To engage the public creatively, GM Klang introduced the ‘I AM THE EARTH WARRIOR!’ Instagram Story Challenge, inviting participants to share their most creative and meaningful snapshots from the event and tag GM Klang’s official account.

Five standout entries were selected on the same day, with winners receiving exclusive prizes, including sustainable merchandise and household items sponsored by GM Klang.
The campaign offered a fresh, engaging way to promote sustainability through visual storytelling and online engagement, proving that environmental advocacy can be both fun and impactful.
“We began this journey last year with a humble initiative in Bandar Botanic. That experience showed us how even small efforts can leave a lasting impact on the community,” said Puan Norsuhaida Othman, senior manager of Brand Communications Department at GM Klang.
“This year, we’re proud to scale up the programme at Taman Pengkalan Batu with better structure and greater community support. It was incredibly rewarding to see volunteers show up early, roll up their sleeves, and bring the mural area to life — both on the ground and online through the IG Story Challenge. This reinforces our belief that clean-up programmes don’t have to be rigid or traditional. With the right mindset, they can be fun, inclusive, and creatively meaningful.
“We look forward to expanding this initiative in the coming years — with greater participation, new locations, and an even stronger spirit of community,” she added.
GM Klang’s support of MBDK’s ’Wake Up Make Up’ initiative underscores its long-term commitment to environmental responsibility and meaningful community partnerships.
‘Fun & Freshen Up’ is more than a one-day event. It serves as a growing platform to foster sustainable living, local ownership, and creative place-making.
GM Klang remains dedicated to enabling community-driven impact and championing collaborations that revitalise public spaces and strengthen civic engagement throughout Klang and beyond.
