SEPANG, July 3 — Five projects have been identified as core to the transformation of Sepang over the next 10 years, through the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) Local Plan Draft (Replacement) 2035.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the project encompasses strategic fields including the development of a hi-tech smart city, industrial corridor, aerospace, public transport network, and flood mitigation.
Amirudin said these components form the backbone of Sepang’s progress, in line with the state’s overall development plan.
“Sepang’s development vision, ‘Sepang, A Strategic Technology Gateway in A Sustainable Community’, is aligned with the state’s development aspiration: to promote Selangor as a hi-tech investment and trade hub driven by industry activity and high-value services, like in Cyberjaya.
“This local plan draft is important to shape projects, programmes, controls and management (practices) that will be the cornerstones to drive the development of Sepang, so it fits and completes the state’s progress — the Selangor Conurbation — as a whole,” he added.
Amirudin was met when officiating the MPSepang Local Plan Draft (Replacement) 2035 publicity and public participation programme here today.
The five driving projects for Sepang 2035 are:
1. Cyberjaya as a regional hi-tech hub
— Centring smart city elements, drone and robotics test zones, semiconductor design, and the creative digital industry.
2. KLIA Aeropolis
— An integrated logistics and aerospace hub towards a progressive aeromobility sector.
3. South Sepang as an ecotourism and cultural hub
— Uniting local heritage with inclusive tourism support facilities.
4. Integrated public transport and rail network
— Involves interchanges to the BRT, MRT and monorail from Cyberjaya to Salak Tinggi to Bagan Lalang
5. Flood mitigation via ‘sponge’ cities
— Focus on green infrastructure and sustainable drainage systems as part of climate change adaptation efforts.

In a press conference, Amirudin also emphasised the need for local authorities to be progressive in integrating community needs, technological development, and environment conservation.
“Local authorities can be proactive in approaching groups and experts to manage specific issues such as climate change, technology, and such,” he said.
Meanwhile, MPSepang Deputy President Muhamad Shah Osmin said the publicity and public participation programme for the draft will last till August 1.
“The draft report may be viewed at the MPSepang Complex, PLANMAlaysia Central Zone Project office, PLANMalaysia Selangor office, and Sepang District/Land Office.
“I urge the full involvement and commitment of all parties to provide their constructive views, brilliant ideas and relevant suggestions on the local plan draft throughout the publicity programme,” Shah said.
