KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 24 — The field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is gaining significant traction in Selangor, with over 95 per cent capacity fully utilised across all schools offering it.
Selangor Education Department deputy director for student development Yusaini Salleh said the increase in TVET enrolment has been evident since 2018.
“Nationally, we have observed a rise in students opting for the TVET stream starting in 2018, when the enrolment was around four per cent, reaching 10.5 per cent last year.

“In Selangor, over 95 per cent of schools offering TVET have reached full capacity. Our challenge lies in infrastructure readiness, as the availability of places is limited,” he said.
Yusaini was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Selangor Youth TVET Bootcamp programme at the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre's (STDC) Kuala Selangor campus today.
The inaugural programme, organised by STDC in collaboration with the Selangor Education Department, was attended by 160 selected students from four districts: Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat, Hulu Selangor, and Sepang.
He added that the participants were given hands-on exposure to various sectors offered by STDC over a three-day, two-night programme, designed to spark interest in TVET.
“This is one of our efforts to further ignite students’ enthusiasm for TVET. We want these students to continue choosing TVET pathways after completing their schooling,” Yusaini said.
The 2025 Selangor Budget continues to support TVET education development with a RM13.65 million allocation through the Smart Selangor Technical and Professional Skills Initiative programme, or Iktisass.
