TAPAH, Aug 22 — Institutions of higher learning (IPT) must ensure teaching and learning practices are always updated according to current needs, as new admissions to public universities last year alone added up to 193,029.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said actions must be taken to ensure IPT graduates are ready to enter the working world.
He said youth face the rapid evolution of technology, besides the challenges it poses, not only in their respective skill areas, but also to navigate their daily life.
“The values of humanity, spirituality, morality and ethics must also be instilled in students so they can face today’s various challenges.
“I am entrusted to carry out the great task of engineering and transformation of the country’s higher education to face the emergence of the world of AI (artificial intelligence) which changes the global education landscape as a whole,” he said when delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of the Tapah branch of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) here today.
At the ceremony, Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah officially declared the opening of the UiTM branch.
Also in present were Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Di Hilir Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris A’fifullah Shah, and Raja Puan Muda of Perak Tunku Soraya Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.
Zambry said building excellence is no longer an option, but a must, and the Higher Education Ministry aims to make Malaysia an international education hub.
He said several key impact targets were set for the country’s higher education sector, including improving Malaysia’s position as a hub of international knowledge and talent.
