SHAH ALAM, Dec 3 — Two initiatives by the Selangor government in helping small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) and micro-businesses affected by Covid-19 has proven its success.
Selangor executive councillor for commerce Dato’ Teng Chang Kim said the Selangor E-Bazar Raya and E-Bazar 11.11 campaign had generated tremendous result.
“From the vouchers worth RM1 million that the state provided, the E-Bazar Raya managed to create 12 times of the return on investment (ROI) with a direct revenue of RM11.7 million.
“Research and market findings by the Selangor government also found that the E-Bazar Raya had generated about RM341.5 million in a ripple effect to the SMEs,” said Teng in his opening speech at the virtual Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards (Top ECM) today.
The E-Bazar Raya was held from May 4 to July 4 in conjunction with Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Teng said the ripple effects include economic, socio-economic and branding effects that had created positive impacts towards the merchants, including their offline operations, job creation, online customer traffic, publicity, and social media hype.
He said the Selangor E-Bazar 11.11, which was held from October 26 to November 26 in conjunction with Singles Day Mega Sales, had also proven to be a success.
“From RM2 million vouchers allocated by the Selangor government, the E-Bazar 11.11 merchants successfully produced a direct revenue of RM30 million and a ripple effect of RM700 million, which is almost double from the E-Bazar Raya campaign,” he said.
Teng had encouraged entrepreneurs and merchants adversely impacted by the Covid-19 outbreak to continue to innovate.
“It is high time for them to embrace digitalisation in coping with office closures, restricted movement, and supply interruption,” he said.
