SHAH ALAM – The Selangor State Education Carnival programme 2018, organised by the Selangor State Education Standing Committee, is back for its third year today.
Officiated by Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, the programme will be running from Nov 10 to Nov 12 at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC).
This year’s education carnival programme has been improved by highlighting the awareness of mental disability such as (dyslexia, ADHD, autism) as well as activities that are based on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) starting from pre-school level to IPT.
“The 2018 education carnival is also implemented in an integrated way by combining the elements of human capital development together. Therefore, issues such as Cyber-Bully and drug abuse will also be discussed in this carnival,” said Amirudin during his opening speech here at SACC.
Amirudin added that the carnival provides public exposure to the role of STEM and its importance to the career development of the nation's children and the nation's future.
“It is my hope that this carnival will be a one-stop center for Selangor State education exhibitions to enable the people to make the best choice of educational institutions for their families, from pre-school to Higher Education Institutions, and to educate the public about mental disorders such as Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism and so on,” he said.
In addition, the carnival also included career seminars to provide effective guidance and tips to students who will soon enter the work environment and is presented by representatives from the Labor Department and the Private Sector.
According to Amirudin, the Selangor State Government will continue to step in to strengthen education in the State of Selangor through various strategies in line with the spirit of the New Malaysia.
The state government is also keen to transform Selangor into an Education Cluster that will qualify as the ‘Boston of Malaysia’.
“I am convinced that with the whole community and civil servant members, this strategy will be successful, at the same time it is not surprising if our 
higher education institutions will be comparable to Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
“We will see access to knowledge and knowledge will be simplified as well as various assistance and benefits will be empowered to ensure that the State of Selangor is able to provide skilled manpower in line with the needs of the Industrial Revolution 4.0,” said Amirudin.
First launched in 2016, The Selangor State Education Carnival programme 2018 aims for the State of Selangor to not only be a gateway as the National Economic Gateway, but to also position the state as the driver exploring the new frontier of science and technology.
The Education Carnival of 2018 is made special as participation in this year's activities involves all levels and agencies from both the state and federal levels comprising the Selangor Public Library Corporation, Selangor State Education Department, Yayasan Selangor, various IPTA / IPTS, Skills Institutions, Early Intervention Agencies, PTPTN, Early Education Agencies, and more.
